Dibrugarh Sikhs Honor Guru Arjan Dev's Martyrdom Day with Devotion

Dibrugarh: The Sikh community in Dibrugarh solemnly commemorated Shaheedi Diwas, marking the martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev Ji, at the historic Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara on AT Road on Thursday. The observance was characterized by religious fervor and quiet dignity, reflecting the significance of this poignant chapter in Sikh history.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, was executed in 1606 on the orders of Mughal Emperor Jahangir for refusing to renounce his faith. His unwavering commitment in the face of persecution stands as a timeless symbol of religious freedom and selfless sacrifice.

The day began with devotees attending the Akhand Path, followed by ardas, kirtan, and prayers. As part of the observance, Guru Ka Langar was organized, where community members actively participated in seva.

Outside the gurdwara, volunteers extended their service by preparing and distributing chabeel, a cooling drink made with milk, sugar, and rose water, to pedestrians and commuters along AT Road. Sardar Gurdev Singh, president of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara committee, emphasized the deeper meaning behind this act, stating, “When we distribute chabeel, we are not merely offering a drink, but carrying forward his message of selfless service to humanity.”

The observance of Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom serves as a reminder of his eternal lessons in patience, devotion, and the courage to uphold one’s faith.
