News Darpan is committed to accurate, fair and independent journalism. This Ethics Policy sets out the standards every member of our newsroom is expected to uphold.

Accuracy and verification

• We verify facts before publication and attribute information to its source.
• We quote people fairly and in context, and never fabricate quotes or sources.
• When we get something wrong, we correct it openly — see our Corrections Policy.

Independence and integrity

• Our editorial decisions are independent of commercial, political and personal interests. Advertising and sponsored content, where present, are clearly labelled and kept separate from news.
• Journalists do not accept gifts, favours or payment that could compromise their impartiality.
• Conflicts of interest are disclosed and, where necessary, staff recuse themselves from related coverage.

Fairness and accountability

• We seek comment from those we report on and offer a right of reply where fairness requires it.
• We take particular care with vulnerable people, minors, grief and matters of public safety.
• We distinguish clearly between news, analysis and opinion.

Sources

• We protect the identity of confidential sources where we have promised to do so.
• We prefer named, on-the-record sourcing and corroborate anonymous information wherever possible.

Every story is edited and approved by our editorial team, and our journalists are accountable for it.
