Parthenon's Western Facade Fully Restored for First Time in 220 Years

The western facade of the iconic Parthenon in Athens has been fully restored for the first time in 220 years, offering visitors a rare glimpse of the ancient monument in its complete form. The restoration, officially unveiled on Thursday, involved the placement of two new marble blocks to fill long-empty gaps on the western end of the temple, which is the first view visitors encounter as they enter the Acropolis.

In 2022 alone, approximately 4.6 million people visited the Acropolis. Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni hailed the latest restoration as a remarkable achievement. “The sight is truly stunning,” she said, emphasizing the importance of the new marble blocks. “They allow the unique proportions and the geometric perfection of the Parthenon’s western face to be seen once again.”
