Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District to be renamed Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has approved a proposal to rename Wipro Circle in Hyderabad’s Financial District as ‘Dr. Manmohan Singh Circle’.

The decision was taken at the CMC’s 8th Ordinary Meeting held on Monday, October 5.

The proposal was approved under Section 137 of the Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Act, 2026.

Park near the circle to be renamed

The civic body also approved the renaming of the adjacent 2.97-acre park developed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) as ‘Dr. Manmohan Singh Memorial Park’.

A statue of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was unveiled at the park recently by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The naming proposal was one of several items considered by the civic body during its meeting.

The decision follows the naming of the Aramghar-Zoo Park flyover after Manmohan Singh, giving another prominent Hyderabad landmark his name.

Lakefront development proposal

The CMC also approved a proposal to constitute a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), the Durgam Cheruvu Lakefront Development Company (DCDC), for the integrated development and rejuvenation of the Durgam Cheruvu lakefront.

Around 140 acres across Durgam Cheruvu lake have been identified for the proposed development.

The proposal is to be recommended to the government.

The lakefront proposal was among the civic and infrastructure matters taken up by the corporation during the meeting.

Drainage and civic infrastructure projects

Among the infrastructure proposals approved was a ₹5.95 crore Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) project.

The project covers construction of the remaining stretch of a box drain from Trendz Junior to Vashinavi Pride Apartment.

The new stretch will be linked to the existing box drain that forms part of the Gaffor Nagar junction to Durgam Cheruvu entry plaza project.

The civic body also approved construction of a Gajularamaram Circle office building beside Oxygen Park on Lalsabguda Road.

The office building project has been estimated at ₹5.18 crore.

Another approved proposal involves developing a model road from the Hindu-Muslim Graveyard to Allwyn Colony Circle Border in Allwyn Colony.

The model road project has been estimated at ₹2.95 crore.

Chintal Kunta Lake rejuvenation

In another major proposal, the CMC approved the rejuvenation and development of Chintal Kunta Lake.

The project is estimated to cost ₹21.59 crore.

It includes desilting, embankment protection and water quality restoration.

The proposal also includes construction of a box drain to Narlakunta Lake through Shuraksha Meadows Colony in Bahadurpally.

These works formed part of the wider set of development and infrastructure proposals approved by the civic body.

Sports arena and road proposal

Among the extra items taken up with the permission of the Chair, the CMC approved development of a box cricket sports arena near PJR Flyover at Gachibowli Junction.

The arena will be developed under corporate social responsibility (CSR) by Arcesium India Private Limited.

The proposal also includes directional signage near the flyover and branding signages at the sports arena carrying the CSR logo.

The CMC further approved a proposal for laying a BT road from Bandamkommu to Lalabai Colony in Ameenpur Municipality.

The road project is being taken up under TUFIDC loan assistance.

It pertains to the erstwhile Ameenpur and Bollaram municipalities, which were merged into the CMC.

The project has been estimated in two parts at more than ₹5 crore.

Its implementation will be subject to the availability of funds and compliance with applicable rules, regulations and financial procedures.
