Several stretches of Bengaluru were waterlogged after heavy rain on Thursday evening, leaving many commuters stranded as traffic slowed sharply.

Congestion was particularly severe in the Central Business District (CBD), while motorists on Hosur Road faced bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Several locations near Electronics City reported severe waterlogging, adding to the disruption on one of the city’s busy routes.

Waterlogging slows key roads

Slow-moving traffic linked to waterlogging was also reported on M.G. Road, Commissionerate Road, Acharya Layout Road, Anand Rao Circle, R.P. Road towards P.G. Halli, Mehkri Circle and Jayamahal, among other locations.

The spread of affected roads left traffic moving slowly across multiple parts of the city, with the CBD and Hosur Road among the locations specifically reporting heavy congestion.

According to Greater Bengaluru Authority sources, no tree falls were reported.

However, more than 10 cases of tree branches snapping were flagged across the five city corporations.

Surge fares reported

Several officegoers took to social media to share screenshots showing exorbitant surge prices charged by ride-hailing applications.

Even short trips of around 5 km cost more than ₹300, according to the source.

Power outages were also reported in the southern and northeastern parts of Bengaluru.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru, said the city is likely to see generally cloudy skies, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, over the next three days.
