Holiday Announced for Schools in Kuttanad and Chengannur Due to Flooding

Schools and other educational institutions in Chengannur and Kuttanad taluks of Kerala will remain closed on Monday due to severe waterlogging caused by heavy rainfall and the ongoing operation of relief camps in some schools. District Collector Shaji V. Nair announced the decision, which applies to professional colleges, anganwadis, and tuition centres as well.

The closure aims to ensure the safety of students and staff as several areas in the district are grappling with flooding. Institutions currently being used as relief camps will also remain shut. However, the District Collector clarified that examinations scheduled for Monday will proceed as planned, and students appearing for these exams are advised to make necessary arrangements.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days has led to widespread waterlogging in Kuttanad and Chengannur, disrupting daily life and forcing authorities to set up relief camps in affected areas. Several schools have been converted into temporary shelters to accommodate those displaced by the floods, prompting the administration to announce the holiday.
