In West Bengal, TMC leader Jahangir Khan was paraded in half pants by the police in Falta on Thursday as part of an investigation. He was arrested on June 8 near the Nepal border on charges of illegal extortion. Seven FIRs have been filed against him at the Falta police station. Reports suggest he was attempting to flee to Nepal. No official statement has been issued by the police regarding the case.
In Durgapur, another TMC leader, Sukumar Dutta, was arrested on charges of corruption and extortion. While being escorted from the police station to court, a crowd threw eggs at him and raised slogans against him. Allegations against Dutta include land grabbing, extortion, and intimidating locals. Protesters outside the police station reportedly included BJP workers and local residents. BJP leader Swadhin Ray stated that the egg attack was a result of public anger against Dutta, who has allegedly been exploiting locals for years.
Public outrage against TMC leaders has been escalating. On June 7, TMC councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta faced a similar incident in Kolkata, where eggs were thrown at his vehicle. Viral videos on social media have also shown other TMC leaders being confronted by locals over allegations of corruption and extortion.
