In West Bengal, TMC leader Jahangir Khan was paraded in half-pants by the police in Falta on Thursday as part of an investigation. Khan was arrested on June 8 near the Nepal border on charges of illegal extortion. He had seven FIRs registered against him at the Falta police station and was reportedly attempting to flee to Nepal. Police are bringing him to Kolkata for further proceedings.
In a separate incident in Durgapur, TMC leader Sukumar Dutta was arrested on allegations of corruption, land grabbing, and extortion. When police escorted him from the station to court, a crowd threw eggs at him and raised slogans against him. Protesters, including BJP workers and locals, expressed anger over alleged years of intimidation and exploitation by Dutta. BJP leader Swadhin Roy stated that the egg-throwing was a spontaneous reaction from the public.
Other recent incidents involving TMC leaders have also surfaced. On June 7, TMC councillor Bappaditya Dasgupta faced public anger when eggs were thrown at his vehicle while being taken to court. Viral videos shared by BJP leaders showed another TMC leader hiding under a bed to escape a mob and one being paraded with a shaved head and garland of shoes in Howrah. These incidents highlight growing public resentment against alleged corruption and extortion by TMC leaders.
