Pilot dies in helicopter crash during forest maintenance in Germany

A helicopter pilot tragically lost his life in a crash while conducting forest maintenance in eastern Germany on Friday. The incident occurred near Sehmatal, a small town in the Ore Mountains, as the helicopter was performing liming work to treat the forest.

According to the police directorate in Chemnitz, the crash was reported at approximately 9:55 a.m. local time. Emergency workers managed to pull the pilot from the wreckage, but despite immediate first aid efforts at the scene, the man succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed that no one else was aboard the helicopter at the time of the accident.

Following the crash, the helicopter caught fire, prompting a massive response from local emergency services. Over 85 firefighters were deployed to the site, successfully extinguishing the blaze before it could spread further. District fire chief Falko Auerswald stated that one fire engine remained on-site to ensure safety measures were completed.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the pilot or the cause of the crash. Investigations are underway to determine what led to the deadly accident.
