Teacher arrives drunk at Firozabad school, sparks chaos and protests

A primary school in Firozabad’s Narakhi area witnessed chaos on Saturday morning after allegations surfaced that a teacher arrived drunk on campus. The incident occurred at the Alampur Primary School, where assistant teacher Amritpal reportedly showed up intoxicated, unable to walk properly. Shocked students informed local residents, leading to a crowd of parents and villagers gathering at the school, demanding immediate action.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Amritpal came to the school on a scooter and was visibly under the influence of alcohol. Students alleged that this was not an isolated incident, accusing the teacher of frequently arriving drunk and even physically assaulting them. Some parents said they had previously complained about the teacher’s behavior but no action was taken.

Police and Block Education Officer (BEO) Upendra Singh arrived at the scene shortly after being notified. Singh confirmed that the teacher was indeed intoxicated and unable to communicate or walk properly. Amritpal was subsequently taken to the Narakhi police station, and the BEO assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be initiated against him.

The incident has also sparked wider concerns about the school’s management. Villagers raised complaints against School Management Committee (SMC) chairperson Manju Devi, questioning her three-year tenure despite her children not being enrolled in the school. Allegations were made regarding irregularities in the committee’s budget and its utilization. Residents demanded the reconstitution of the SMC, suggesting that a parent of a current student should be appointed as chairperson.

Parents further criticized headmaster Jai Veer, citing poor maintenance of the school, inadequate cleanliness, and issues with midday meal arrangements. They alleged that the school’s overall condition has been deteriorating for a long time.

The incident has highlighted serious concerns about the state of education and accountability in local schools, raising questions about the future of the children studying there. Parents and villagers are now demanding swift reforms to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
