Tamil Nadu is gearing up to unveil a new industrial policy aimed at boosting investments and driving economic growth. Governor R. V. Arlekar announced the plan during his address to the assembly on Thursday, highlighting the state’s ambition to become a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036. The policy will include special incentives to attract both domestic and foreign investors, alongside measures to improve ease of doing business.

A key feature of the initiative is the establishment of the Tamil Nadu Investor Promotion Commission (TIPC), which will be chaired by the Chief Secretary. The commission will focus on drawing multinational companies to the state and ensuring faster approvals for large-scale projects. Companies investing over ₹200 crore or creating employment for at least 5,000 people will benefit from fast-track permissions. Additionally, the government plans to expedite approvals for MSMEs to encourage broader industrial participation.

To streamline processes, the state will upgrade its single-window system into a fully digital platform covering all sectors. Governor Arlekar emphasized that this move aims to eliminate administrative delays and create a business-friendly environment. “This government will notify a new industrial policy to promote economic stability and industrial growth while maintaining continuity with previous policies,” he stated.

The announcement underscores Tamil Nadu’s commitment to fostering industrial development while ensuring worker welfare. By prioritizing ease of doing business and offering targeted incentives, the state hopes to attract significant investments and position itself as a leading economic hub in the country. With these measures, Tamil Nadu is set to strengthen its industrial base and accelerate its journey toward long-term economic prosperity.
