June 2026 GST Collection Rises 13.9% to Rs 1.95 Lakh Crore

New Delhi. India's tax machinery flexed again in June 2026. Government data shows gross GST collection touched Rs 1,94,812 crore — close to Rs 1.95 lakh crore — a 13.9% jump over the Rs 1,71,105 crore collected in June last year. The standout: the real engine behind this growth was not domestic sales but the tax on imports.

## Imports drove the jump
GST from domestic transactions rose a modest 6.5% to Rs 1,34,774 crore. But GST on imports surged 34.6% to Rs 60,038 crore, up from Rs 44,600 crore a year ago. In other words, imported goods gave the total collection its biggest push this month.

## Refunds climbed too, easing business cash flow
The government cleared refunds faster this month. Total GST refunds in June 2026 rose 29.1% to Rs 32,436 crore, against Rs 25,121 crore in the same month last year. That handed businesses welcome relief on liquidity.

## State-wise picture: Maharashtra leads
Maharashtra remained the biggest contributor to domestic collection, up 9% at Rs 30,714 crore, from Rs 28,248 crore a year ago. It was followed by Karnataka at Rs 12,937 crore, Gujarat at Rs 11,743 crore, Tamil Nadu at Rs 9,776 crore (down 2%) and Uttar Pradesh at Rs 9,165 crore. UP's 19% growth was the fastest among the large states.

## Where collections fell
Several smaller states saw collections shrink. Sikkim recorded the steepest fall at 53% (Rs 170 crore), followed by Puducherry (down 28%), Himachal Pradesh (down 26%) and Uttarakhand (down 21%).

Nine years of GST has now completed nine years. Manoj Mishra, tax expert at Grant Thornton Bharat, said the Rs 1.95 lakh crore mop-up and the strong 13.9% annual growth show how resilient India's revenue base is even amid global uncertainty. Faster refunds and a collection consistently nearing Rs 2 lakh crore, he added, prove GST has matured into a reliable, technology-driven system.

For the financial year so far, from April to June, gross GST collection stood at Rs 6,31,699 crore, 8.4% higher than the same period last year. Net collection after refunds was Rs 5,40,218 crore.
