Police Commemoration Day: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay pays floral tributes

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay distributed financial assistance amounting to ₹5.96 crore to families of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

He took part in the Police Commemoration Day programme at the DGP office in R.K. Salai, where he laid a floral wreath at the Police Memorial for the fallen police officials.

The assistance was provided to the families of six police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty, according to a senior police official.

The official said the financial assistance also included the family of one police officer who is currently hospitalised.

Tributes at the Police Memorial

Police Commemoration Day is observed every year on October 21.

The observance is held to honour the sacrifice of 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel who lost their lives during a surprise attack by Chinese forces in the Ladakh region in 1959.

The occasion also pays tribute to police personnel of the State force.

After laying the wreath, Vijay accepted a ceremonial salute from the police contingent.

He also planted a sapling on the premises as part of the programme.

The event was held on Wednesday, according to the report.

Director General of Police and Head of Police Force Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, along with senior police officers, participated in the commemoration.

The financial assistance marked the support extended to the families of personnel who died while performing their duty, while also covering the family of a police officer undergoing hospitalisation.
