Sudden rain disrupts traffic in Hyderabad, catches residents off guard

A sudden spell of rain disrupted daily life in Hyderabad on Monday afternoon, catching residents and commuters off guard. What began as a bright and sunny day turned dark after noon, as showers swept through several parts of the city, leading to traffic snarls and inconvenience for many.

The unexpected downpour forced several two-wheeler riders to take shelter under the Khairatabad Metro Station. This led to congestion in the area, with slow-moving traffic reported on the stretch between Ayodhya Junction and VV Statue. Commuters faced delays as vehicles piled up, struggling to navigate through the rain-soaked roads.

According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Khairatabad recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 14.5 mm as of 3 p.m. Other areas also saw significant rainfall, including 12.8 mm in Monda Market, 11.8 mm in Bansilalpet, 7.5 mm in Chilkalguda, 6 mm in Amberpet, 5.8 mm in Uppal, 5 mm in Kukatpally, and 4.8 mm in Srinagar Colony.

The sudden weather change disrupted routine activities, with many residents unprepared for the showers. While the rain brought a brief respite from the summer heat, it also highlighted the city's vulnerability to traffic bottlenecks during such weather events. Local authorities have yet to issue any advisories regarding the rains or potential disruptions in the coming days.
