Weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh have changed again after the withdrawal of the monsoon, with storms and rain continuing in parts of western Madhya Pradesh. The weather department has forecast rain in 15 districts on 19 October, while an alert has been issued for rain and strong winds in 14 districts, including Indore and Ujjain, on Dussehra, 20 October.

The wind speed in these areas may reach 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The alert is significant because religious programmes, Ravan effigy burnings and fairs will be held at several places during Dussehra. People have been advised to keep an eye on the latest weather updates because of the possibility of storms and rain.

On Monday, 19 October, rain is expected in Bhopal, Ujjain, Agar-Malwa, Rajgarh, Shajapur, Dewas, Sehore, Vidisha, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Sagar and Damoh.

The weather department has also said that rain may continue in several parts of western Madhya Pradesh between 20 and 22 October. In contrast, the weather in eastern Madhya Pradesh is expected to remain relatively clear, with the possibility of sunshine.

For Dussehra on 20 October, the districts covered by the rain warning are Indore, Ujjain, Ratlam, Jhabua, Alirajpur, Barwani, Dhar, Khargone, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Dewas, Shajapur, Harda and Betul. Along with rain, strong winds moving at 30 to 40 kilometres per hour are likely in these areas.

Before this, heavy rain was recorded in Indore, Sehore and Shajapur on Sunday. The change in weather has led to a noticeable difference between daytime temperatures and the chill during the night. According to the weather department, rain activity may continue in western Madhya Pradesh for the next few days.

The weather change has been linked to a trough line passing over western Madhya Pradesh and the influence of a cyclonic circulation. With these weather systems active, conditions have developed for cloud cover, strong winds and rain in several parts of the state.

The weather is expected to remain unsettled in the western region for the next four days. The forecast indicates that western Madhya Pradesh may continue to see changing conditions, while eastern parts of the state are more likely to experience clearer weather and sunshine.

The monsoon withdrew from Madhya Pradesh on 3 October this year. After the withdrawal, the weather had started to clear, and strong sunshine was being seen during the day. However, after new weather systems became active, parts of eastern and western Madhya Pradesh have been receiving intermittent storms and rain for the past one week.

Heavy rain has also been recorded in several districts during the past four days. This means that even after the monsoon’s withdrawal, rain-related activity has continued in different parts of the state because of the new weather systems.

Weather expert Shailendra Kumar Nayak said that an examination of data from the past ten years shows the influence of rain, heat and cold during October. He said that the same mixed pattern of weather is being seen this time as well.

During the day, sunshine and heat are being experienced in many areas, while falling night temperatures are bringing a feeling of chill. At the same time, the spell of rain is continuing in several districts. The weather department’s forecast points to more rain in western Madhya Pradesh through 22 October, while eastern Madhya Pradesh may see relatively clearer conditions.
