MVD fines Kochi bike riders ₹2.2 lakh for noise violations
MVD fines bike riders ₹2.2 lakh for noise pollution and violations in Kochi. Inspections reveal banned silencers and concealed plates.
In a major crackdown on noise pollution and traffic violations, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in Kochi has fined bike riders a total of ₹2.2 lakh during a special inspection drive. The operation, which began late Friday night on July 31, 2026, and continued into the early hours of Saturday, targeted riders creating disturbances and violating safety norms in the city.
According to Enforcement RTO Biju Isaac, e-challans were issued to offenders, with strict penalties imposed. He warned that repeat violators could face severe consequences, including the cancellation of their driving licences and vehicle registration certificates. The inspections were conducted at key locations across the city, including Stadium Link Road, Queen’s Walkway, Marine Drive, Kadavanthra, and Panampilly Nagar.
Out of 80 vehicles inspected during the drive, 35 were found to have illegal silencers that amplified noise levels, while 20 others were flagged for violations such as concealed number plates and unauthorized modifications that compromised safety standards. These violations not only disrupt public peace but also pose significant risks to road safety.
The MVD has emphasized that such enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to curb reckless behavior and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. Officials are determined to send a strong message to violators, aiming to make Kochi’s roads safer and quieter for residents.
The crackdown comes as part of broader efforts to address growing concerns over noise pollution and road safety in urban areas. With fines totaling ₹2,20,500 in just one night, the MVD hopes to deter riders from flouting rules and restore order on the city’s streets.
