Weekend Theatre: IIET to Host Two of Abhinay Gurukul’s Hindi Plays

Mysuru’s Indian Institute of Educational Theatre (IIET) is gearing up for a special weekend of Hindi theatre, showcasing two productions by Abhinay Gurukul, Jodhpur. The performances are scheduled for June 20 and 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the IIET premises, located on the Hardwick School Campus along JLB Road.

The first play, Album, will be staged on Saturday. Written by Raghunandan Trivedi and directed by Aru Swati Vyas, this 60-minute production delves into the life of Manjari, a 34-year-old woman caring for her ageing father. While tidying up her home, she stumbles upon an old family album that rekindles memories of her past. Through these recollections, the audience is taken on a journey exploring the unwavering love, sacrifices, and dedication of parents, particularly a father who devoted his life to his children’s happiness. The play offers a heartfelt reflection on family bonds and gratitude.

On Sunday, the spotlight shifts to Sankraman, a 75-minute play inspired by the work of the late Kamtanath. Also directed by Aru and Swati Vyas, this production examines the emotional dynamics within a family through the perspectives of a father, son, and mother. The narrative highlights generational conflicts, with the father seeking acknowledgment for his sacrifices and the son challenging his worldview. The mother acts as a silent mediator, offering a poignant lens through which the family’s truths are revealed.
