The Food Safety Department has taken major action against the alleged manufacture and sale of adulterated food products in Hapur district. Acting on the directions of the Commissioner, Food Safety, and the District Magistrate of Hapur, a departmental team conducted a surprise inspection and investigation at Gajendra Singh Dairy in Mujuffara Bangadpur village, in the Babugarh area.
During the inspection, the team recovered a suspected mixture of cream and vegetable oil from the dairy premises and got it destroyed. The department also collected samples of four food products, milk, curd, refined oil and cream, and sent them to a laboratory for testing.
The action was carried out by a Food Safety Department team led by Assistant Commissioner of Food, Second, Chandra Shekhar Mishra. After reaching the dairy premises, the team inspected the quality of the food products and the process being used to prepare them.
As part of the inspection, officials collected one sample each of curd, milk, refined oil and cream for examination. All four samples were sealed and sent to the laboratory. The testing is expected to establish their quality and purity.
During the inspection, the team found around 18 kilograms of suspected cream and approximately 25 litres of a mixture containing vegetable oil. In view of the suspicion of adulteration in the food products, officials had the mixture destroyed at the spot.
The department’s action caused concern among operators involved in the food products trade in the area. The inspection and destruction of the suspected mixture were carried out as part of efforts to check the manufacture and sale of adulterated food products in the district.
The action has taken place ahead of the festival season and is being seen as an important step towards curbing adulteration. During festivals, the demand for milk, curd, cream, ghee and other dairy products increases. In such a situation, ensuring the quality of food products and protecting the general public from adulteration is an important responsibility of the department.
The Food Safety Department team has already sent the collected samples for laboratory testing. The position regarding the quality of the food products will become clear after the laboratory report is received.
Further action can be taken according to the rules on the basis of the report. The department’s action has also sent a message that strict steps are being taken against adulteration in food products.
