Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Thursday, June 18, 2026, commended the unprecedented practice of rendering the National Anthem at both the beginning and conclusion of his customary address to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. He described the event as a historic moment that symbolized the dignity of democracy and marked the dawn of a new era in the Assembly's proceedings.

"For the very first time, the National Anthem was rendered both at the commencement of the session and at the conclusion of the Governor’s address," he noted, emphasizing that this milestone reflected the aspirations of the people of Tamil Nadu for a harmonious relationship between the State Government and the Governor’s office.
