G.K. Vasan gets full authority to decide TMC(M)'s stance on two bypolls

Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan now has the mandate to independently determine whether his party will support any political formation in the upcoming byelections to the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by Vasan with district presidents and state-level office-bearers of the party. A release from the TMC(M) said the leadership empowered Vasan to decide whether to extend support to any formation in the two seats.

Decision expected within 48 hours

The party is likely to announce its position in two days, the release added.

The move marks a significant organisational development for the TMC(M), which was part of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance in the 2026 Assembly elections. The delegation of decision-making authority to the party president suggests the leadership wants flexibility in navigating coalition politics ahead of the bypolls.

The party also organised a meeting at its headquarters in Chennai on the topic 'A change in politics after 60 years and what people think'. Vasan and other senior leaders of the party spoke at the meeting.
