Tamil Nadu declares paid holiday on October 6 for Madurantakam and Dharapuram bypolls

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a paid holiday on October 6 for all employees registered as voters in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies to enable them to cast their ballots during the byelections.

The holiday has been declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and applies to workers employed in Chengalpattu and Tiruppur districts as well as neighbouring districts, provided they are registered voters in either of the two constituencies going to polls.

Offices and institutions to remain shut

According to an official order, all government offices, including industrial establishments of the government and government-controlled bodies, will remain closed throughout the areas falling under these two Assembly constituencies on polling day. All educational institutions in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies will also remain shut.

The notification ensures that voters working outside their registered constituencies can travel and participate in the electoral process without loss of pay.
