In a tragic incident in Moradabad's Chhatarpur Khannupur village, a 23-year-old Dalit youth named Ankit was shot dead on Sunday morning. The attack occurred around 6:30 AM when Ankit was sitting outside his home. Two residents of the same village, Nikhil and Vishal, allegedly fired four rounds, one of which struck Ankit in the neck, killing him instantly. Another individual, Ashish, sustained injuries during the incident and was taken to the district hospital. However, police have not confirmed whether Ashish was shot or injured due to a fall.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the attackers were targeting others due to a land dispute involving their family. The dispute reportedly began years ago when Sukhveer Singh, a local resident, purchased land from Nikhil and Vishal's family but later returned it due to disagreements. On the morning of the incident, a confrontation occurred between Sukhveer's son Ashish and the accused, leading to the shooting.
Ankit, the youngest of four brothers, was engaged to be married in November to a girl from Sambhal. He worked as a laborer to support his family and was known for his interest in creating short videos. His elder brother, Ronu, had filed a Dalit atrocity case against the accused three years ago, which reportedly led to ongoing enmity.
District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Pensia and SSP Satpal Antil visited the scene and initiated an investigation. A forensic team was called to collect evidence, and four police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, who are currently absconding. Leaders from the Bhim Army, including Vineet Singh and Janam Singh, also visited the village and demanded immediate arrests and strict action against the culprits.
