Aadhaar enrolment camp held for shelter home inmates in Khammam

Khammam witnessed a significant initiative aimed at promoting social inclusion and aiding the reunion of destitute, abandoned, and mentally ill individuals with their families. A special Aadhaar enrolment camp was conducted on Thursday for the inmates of Annam Seva Foundation, a shelter home in the district. This effort is seen as a major step towards restoring identity, enabling access to welfare services, and facilitating reconnections with families, according to an official press release.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA). Senior Civil Judge and District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary P. Devi Manasa visited the shelter home following directives from TSLSA Member Secretary Ch. Panchakshari. During her visit, she reviewed the challenges faced by the inmates, particularly the lack of identity documents, which hindered their access to essential services.

Acting on the DLSA's intervention, the district administration organised the Aadhaar enrolment camp at the shelter home. Biometric details of the inmates were collected, and the enrolment process was completed for those eligible. Annam Seva Foundation founder Annam Srinivasa Rao and other officials were present during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Devi Manasa highlighted the importance of Aadhaar cards for destitute and mentally ill individuals. She stated that the document serves as more than just an identity proof; it is a gateway to welfare measures, legal protection, and rehabilitation opportunities. She further noted that once the Aadhaar enrolment is completed, the inmates would be linked to various schemes under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), particularly those targeting homeless persons, individuals with mental illness, socially excluded groups, and people living in poverty.

This initiative underscores the commitment to addressing social exclusion and ensuring that vulnerable populations can access essential services and support systems.
