A woman accused of murdering her husband has been arrested alongside a man identified as his lover after police alleged they conspired to kill him over their relationship. The Piler Police Station in the Annamayya district took action on Wednesday night (August 12, 2026), detaining Mangineni Umadevi, 41, and Charala Subrahmanyam, 32.

Superintendent of Police Dheeraj Kunubilli stated that the accused allegedly viewed her husband as an obstacle to their romantic involvement. The investigation suggests they planned a staged death disguised as a road accident on the Madanapalle-Tirupati highway.

The alleged conspiracy began earlier in the week, specifically around August 7 (August 2026), when Umadevi reportedly mixed sleeping pills supplied by Charala Subrahmanyam into her husband's breakfast. Mangineni Venkata Subrahmanyam, 46, fell unconscious after ingesting the medication. Once he lost consciousness, his alleged lover arrived at the residence to carry out what police describe as a premeditated killing using an iron rod and a stone.

Police recovered both weapons used in the assault from the crime scene during their investigation. Additionally, blood-stained clothing was seized alongside other evidence linking the suspects to the victim's death. The couple allegedly transported the body on a scooter before depositing it along the national highway mentioned above.

This case highlights a disturbing trend of domestic violence and extramarital affairs escalating into homicide in rural Andhra Pradesh. By framing the murder as an accidental road incident, the perpetrators likely sought to avoid immediate criminal prosecution for intentional killing under Indian law.
