Gautam Buddh Nagar police arrest five in fake gold scam

In a major breakthrough, Gautam Buddh Nagar police have busted a gang involved in duping people by using fake gold and false promises of money. The Bisrakh police arrested five individuals, including one woman, in connection with the case. The accused were caught with 5.2 kg of fake gold beads, 3.3 kg of counterfeit gold coins, ₹3 lakh in cash, 10 keypad mobile phones, 6 smartphones, 9 mobile batteries, and one illegal knife.

The arrests followed an investigation into a complaint filed on July 10, 2026, by a resident of Fusion Homes Society. The complainant alleged that her mother was deceived by two men in the society’s market. The men reportedly claimed they had been fired from their jobs and were carrying money in a bag. They convinced the elderly woman to help them by offering her jewelry in exchange for their fake gold. After receiving her gold chain and earrings, the men fled the scene.

Using electronic surveillance, CCTV footage, and local intelligence, the police tracked down the suspects on August 14, 2026. The accused—Kishor Rai (42), Vishal Rai (21), Sanju Rai (30), Seva Ram Rai (60), and Meena (56)—were arrested from the green belt near Nephowa Chhat Ghat in Bisrakh. All five belong to Firozabad but were residing in Shahberi, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

During interrogation, the gang revealed their modus operandi. They would lure unsuspecting individuals by showing them fake gold or bundles of cash with real notes on top, convincing them to exchange their valuables. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

This operation highlights the effectiveness of Gautam Buddh Nagar police in tackling organized crime and safeguarding residents from financial fraud. Authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities immediately.
