In Ujjain, the municipal corporation has issued a notice to the Faladia Mosque, asking for the removal of a portion that lies in the path of a proposed elevated bridge. According to the municipal corporation, a 224-square-metre section of the mosque is obstructing the alignment of the proposed flyover.

The notice comes amid preparations for Simhastha 2028, when work on elevated roads and other infrastructure projects in Ujjain is being accelerated. The Faladia Mosque case has come to light after a similar notice was issued in connection with the Shahi Mosque.

The municipal corporation has said that the portion of Faladia Mosque falling within the alignment of the proposed flyover measures 224 square metres. With the notice now issued, the administrative process regarding this part of the mosque has begun.

According to the information available, the municipal corporation issued the notice on 23 October. The notice mentions a portion on the ground floor that is 16 metres wide and 14 metres deep. The mosque management was asked to appear at the corporation headquarters on 27 October with the necessary documents.

The next action will be decided after the documents are examined and the concerned side is given an opportunity to present its case. The notice is therefore part of the ongoing process, and it cannot at this stage be considered the final action regarding the mosque.

The mosque management claims that Faladia Mosque is around 100 years old. The mosque complex also has approximately six shops, which are said to be several decades old. Local families depend on these shops for their livelihood.

Because of this, concerns have been raised that any construction-related action affecting the mosque premises could also affect the shopkeepers and their businesses. The source of these concerns is linked to the possible impact of the proposed work on the shops located within the complex.

Ujjain is currently speeding up projects related to roads, traffic and basic infrastructure in view of Simhastha 2028. The administration’s objective is to make the movement of devotees easier. At the same time, questions are being raised about structures that fall in the path of construction work.

In the Faladia Mosque matter, the municipal corporation has so far issued a notice. Further action will be taken after the documents are checked and the concerned side is heard. The decision on the 224-square-metre portion will be known after that process is completed.
