Technology-Driven Policing Prioritised to Combat Cyber Crime in Telangana

Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand has called for intensified use of technology to address the rising threat of cyber crime in the State. In a video conference held on Friday with officers from all police units, he emphasised the need for Telangana Police to enhance its performance across cyber security benchmarks set by the Union government.

Union Government Concerned Over Cyber Fraud Surge

During the review meeting, DGP Anand highlighted the Union government’s concerns regarding the increasing prevalence of cyber fraud, including “digital arrest” scams. He noted that the Prime Minister’s PRAGATI platform regularly monitors progress on governance initiatives, underscoring the importance of staying ahead in technology to tackle these challenges effectively.

Telangana’s Current Rankings in Cyber Security Benchmarks

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, evaluates States on nine key performance indicators (KPIs related to cyber security preparedness. Telangana’s current rankings reveal areas for improvement. The State is ranked 13th in e-Zero FIR implementation, 18th in money restoration with a recovery rate of 46.6%, fourth in the Grievance Redressal Mechanism (GRM), and eighth in capacity building. However, it lags in other areas, including 16th in the Sahayog portal and social media-related performance, and 15th in cyber security parameters.

Call for Action: Strengthening Cyber Security

DGP Anand directed officers to improve Telangana’s performance across all KPIs, aiming for a higher position in national rankings. He stressed that leveraging technology effectively is crucial to combating cyber crime and ensuring public safety.

Senior Officials Join Review Meeting

The review was attended by key officials, including Telangana Cyber Security Bureau Director Shikha Goel, T-SPARK SP Rupesh, SP (Cyber Security) Sai Sri, and senior police officers from various units across the State.

This renewed focus on technology-driven policing comes as cyber crime continues to pose significant challenges, with Telangana aiming to set a benchmark for proactive governance and robust cyber security measures.
