Telangana attracts 150 global capability centres, creating 1.5 lakh tech jobs
Telangana has attracted 150 global capability centres, creating over 1.5 lakh tech jobs in 20 months, according to IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu.
Telangana has successfully brought in nearly 150 global capability centres (GCCs) over the past 20 months, generating more than 1.5 lakh high-value technology jobs, according to IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu. Speaking on Thursday during the inauguration of JLL Business Services' (JBS) new 1.20 lakh sq. ft. GCC in Hyderabad, the minister highlighted the state’s strategic focus on future-proofing employment amidst global shifts in technology driven by artificial intelligence (AI) and automation.
Hyderabad: A Magnet for GCC Investments
Hyderabad has emerged as a major hub for GCCs, with the city accounting for 16% of India’s total GCC leasing activity between 2024 and mid-2026. Within Hyderabad itself, GCCs contributed to 42% of all office leasing activity during this period, underscoring the city’s growing importance as a destination for global technology and business operations.
JLL Business Services, the integrated operations delivery platform of global real estate giant JLL, chose Hyderabad for its second Indian hub after Gurugram. The new facility is expected to scale to 1,600 employees over the next two years. Matthew Rees, Chief Shared Service Centre Officer of JBS, described the decision as “strategic and deliberate,” citing Hyderabad’s deep talent pool, robust infrastructure, and AI-enabled workflows as key factors.
Sector-Wise GCC Growth
The GCC boom in Hyderabad spans multiple sectors. Financial services and insurance companies lead the activity with a 34.5% share, followed by technology firms at 23.2%, healthcare and biotech companies at 17%, and engineering R&D operations at 12.1%. This diversification reflects Hyderabad’s transformation from an IT hub into a global innovation and business destination.
Strategic Advantages Driving Growth
JLL noted that Hyderabad’s rise as India’s premier destination for healthcare-biotech and semiconductor GCCs is anchored in progressive government policies, a business-friendly ecosystem, and a strong real estate development pipeline. These factors have enabled the city to meet the sustained demand from high-value, innovation-driven operations.
Minister Sridhar Babu emphasized that Telangana’s GCC strategy is not just about attracting investments but also about creating the “jobs of tomorrow” in a rapidly evolving global technology landscape. As companies restructure and consolidate their IT operations, Hyderabad continues to position itself as a resilient and innovation-led investment destination.
