Tamil Nadu Government to Tackle Education-Employment Gap, Says Speaker

The Tamil Nadu government is committed to bridging the gap between education and employment in the state, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar announced on Saturday. Speaking at the closing ceremony of Patrician College of Arts and Science's Silver Jubilee celebrations, Prabhakar acknowledged the pressing issue of unemployed graduates and diploma holders unable to secure jobs aligned with their qualifications.

Education-Employment Mismatch a Key Concern

Prabhakar attributed the issue to policy gaps and the rapid proliferation of engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. While the state boasts numerous Arts and Science colleges offering innovative courses, many graduates still struggle to find jobs that match their education and talent. He emphasized the need for employment opportunities with remuneration that reflects the skills and revenue potential of the knowledge acquired.

Government Working on Solutions

Reassuring the audience, Prabhakar stated that the government is actively working to ensure job security for the youth. He mentioned that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has requested time to implement policies aimed at addressing these challenges.

Call for Upskilling in the AI Era

R. Kumar, Minister for AI, IT, and Digital Services, also addressed the gathering, highlighting the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on global industries. He urged students to go beyond their degrees and focus on upskilling to stay competitive in the evolving job market.

Event Highlights

The event also saw the felicitation of retired faculty and staff members of Patrician College. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Brother Vincent George, Director and Secretary of the college, and Arokiamary Geetha Rufus, the Principal.
