Six Bodies Found in Manipur's Kangpokpi District; Suspected to Belong to Naga Community

Six bodies were recovered in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, on Wednesday. Preliminary investigations suggest that the bodies may belong to six individuals from the Naga community who were abducted on May 13, 2026, during violent clashes between Naga and Kuki communities in the district's Leilon Vaiphei area. The identification and postmortem of the bodies are yet to be conducted.

The search operation, which lasted approximately 24 hours, involved around 450 personnel from Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles, supported by sniffer dogs and forensic experts. Legal formalities are being completed, and the investigation is ongoing.

The discovery of the bodies led to emotional scenes at JNIMS Hospital, where relatives of missing persons and representatives of Naga organizations gathered. Many family members broke down upon seeing the bodies.

Separately, two trucks were set ablaze by miscreants in Senapati district on Wednesday. Details regarding this incident remain unavailable.

In another development, the village authority of Longjang/Thangal in Noone district issued a notice to security forces, stating that prior information is mandatory before entering villages under the Manipur Hill Areas Village Authority Act, 1956. This includes restrictions on drone usage and conducting operations without notifying village authorities.
