Karnataka State Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes chairman L. Murthy has directed district officers to expedite the resolution of 182 applications submitted by SC-ST community members, with most complaints centering on long-pending land grant delays.

280 Attend Commission Meeting

During his visit to Hassan, Mr. Murthy convened a meeting with leaders of various organisations and held separate discussions with district officers. More than 280 people attended the meeting, where 182 applications relating to various issues were received.

A majority of the applications concerned delays in granting land to those who had applied several years ago. Several other complaints related to the alleged misuse of funds under the Special Component Plan and Tribal Sub-Plan (SCP-TSP). Besides the fresh applications, the Commission had already registered 82 complaints related to Hassan district, Mr. Murthy told reporters.

Officers Told to Act Without Delay

"The officers have been told to address the complaints without delay and ensure justice for the victims. Delaying justice could mean denying justice," the chairman said.

Mr. Murthy expressed concern over the rise in the number of atrocity cases reported in the district. He noted reports of witnesses turning hostile in these cases and said the officers concerned should look into them and take appropriate action.

Senior officers of the district administration attended the meeting.
