NDRF teams search through the debris after the Rohtak market fire · NewsDarpan
On Tuesday afternoon, a major fire engulfed around 10 shops in Rohtak's D-Park Market. The blaze, which reportedly began after an AC compressor exploded in the Rohtak Shoes showroom, spread rapidly to nearby shops. The fire was brought under control after six and a half hours, following which NDRF teams conducted a search operation. Three bodies were recovered and sent to PGI for further procedures. The deceased were identified as Saurabh alias Rohit (19), the owner of Hometown Shoes, and Aman (38) and Kapil (50), employees at Rohtak Shoes showroom.
Eyewitnesses stated that the fire brigade's initial response was delayed, with only one vehicle arriving at the scene around 2 PM, nearly half an hour after the fire started. Additional fire engines from five districts arrived later, but by then, significant damage had occurred. The incident took place approximately 50 meters from former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda's residence. Nearby areas were evacuated as a precaution.
MP Deepender Hooda visited the site and interacted with affected shopkeepers. He assured them of compensation and called for an investigation into the delayed fire brigade response. According to Hooda, shopkeepers reported that while SP and other officials arrived promptly, the fire brigade's delay worsened the situation. He emphasized the need for accountability and support for the victims.
The fire has left the market devastated, with shopkeepers claiming this to be one of the largest fire incidents in Rohtak. Many have lost their entire stock, and even shops that survived the flames suffered damages.
