Rajasthan has met the Union Agriculture Ministry’s target of issuing 90.19 lakh farmer identity cards, making it the first State in northern India and the sixth in the country to complete digital identification of farmers.

Target set by Centre completed

The target was set by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and its completion is expected to facilitate the identification of eligible beneficiaries.

The digital identification system is also intended to make various services for farmers more targeted.

State Agriculture Commissioner Naresh Kumar Goyal said here on Tuesday that the creation of a verified digital identity for farmers would help establish an interconnection of identity cards, land records and the crop registry.

Coverage exceeds agriculture census holdings

The digital identification of farmers has reached approximately 118% when compared with the 76.54 lakh operational holdings recorded in the 2015-16 agriculture census.

This coverage was achieved through the coordinated efforts of the Agriculture and Revenue Departments.

Mr. Goyal said the interconnection of identity cards, land records and the crop registry would strengthen the delivery of services such as crop insurance, fertiliser distribution and procurement of farm produce at MSP.

Services expected to become more targeted

Mr. Goyal said that, in the future, the system would improve farmers’ access to agricultural credit, quality inputs, localised and need-based agricultural advisory services and market linkages.

The initiative will also help strengthen micro-irrigation, water conservation, seeds and agricultural inputs.

It will further support enrolments for the Prime Minister’s crop insurance scheme.

The development was published on September 30, 2026, at 01:30 am IST.
