Prof Narsi Ram Bishnoi assumes charge as MGSU Vice-Chancellor

The appointment process for the new Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Ganga Singh University (MGSU), Bikaner, has been completed following an official order issued by Rajasthan Chancellor and Governor Haribhau Bagde. Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, former Vice-Chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, reached the university campus on Friday and formally assumed charge.

A special programme was organised on the university campus to mark the occasion of his joining. The event was held with a formal welcome, and the university’s First Lady Dr. Vandana Bishnoi and outgoing Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Akhil Ranjan Garg were present on the occasion.

Prof. Akhil Ranjan Garg, who had been given the additional charge of the university, welcomed Prof. Bishnoi by presenting him with a bouquet and handed over charge to him. Heads of various faculties, administrative officers and teachers of the university also welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor.

After taking charge, Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi addressed all faculty members, officers, employees and students of the university and gave a special message. In his message, Prof. Bishnoi said: “Taking Maharaja Ganga Singh University to new heights at the national and international level in the fields of higher education, research and innovation (Research & Innovation) will be my priority. Concrete steps will be taken for transparent administration, a quality teaching environment and the overall development of students in the university. All of us will have to work together with team spirit so that this institution can become a centre of academic excellence.”

The final selection was made after a detailed process for the post of Vice-Chancellor of MGSU. According to the information, 185 senior academicians from across the country had applied for the post. The VC Search Committee had formed a panel of 5 eligible academicians, and from this panel, Governor Haribhau Bagde gave his approval to the name of Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi.

The approval was granted by the Governor using the powers conferred under Sections 11(3) and 11(7) of the ‘University Act 2003 (amended)’. Prof. Bishnoi’s tenure will be for 3 years from the date of assuming charge or until the age of 70 years.

The university had been functioning under additional charge since the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Prof. Manoj Dixit ended on 6 August. After that, the charge of the university was being handled by Prof. Akhil Ranjan Garg, Vice-Chancellor of Bikaner Technical University (BTU).

With Prof. Bishnoi now taking charge as the regular Vice-Chancellor, the university is expected to see more momentum in its administrative and academic work. His joining formally ends the interim arrangement and brings a full-time leadership structure back to Maharaja Ganga Singh University in Bikaner.
