Mirzapur police expose truck driver's fake robbery story

Mirzapur police have uncovered a fabricated story of robbery involving a truck driver, bringing a dramatic turn to what initially seemed like a serious crime. The incident, reported late on the night of August 9, 2026, had claimed that four individuals attacked the driver with a knife and stole ₹1.06 lakh. However, upon investigation, the truth turned out to be far from what was alleged.

The driver, identified as Samroz, son of Firoz, a resident of Pure Mustafa Khan in Pratapgarh district, had called the police through Dial-112, claiming he was robbed in Lalganj area. The police, including the Circle Officer and Lalganj Station personnel, promptly arrived at the scene. However, inconsistencies in the driver’s injuries and his account of the events raised suspicions. A detailed inquiry followed, during which the driver confessed to fabricating the entire story.

According to the police, Samroz admitted that after unloading goods from his truck in Bihar, he handed over the money he received to an acquaintance. To mislead authorities and create the illusion of a robbery, he concocted the false narrative and even injured his hands using glass shards to make the story appear credible.

The police have taken Samroz into custody and initiated legal proceedings against him. Officials commended the swift and thorough investigation that exposed the truth within hours, preventing unnecessary panic in the area. The case serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in distinguishing genuine crimes from fabricated ones.
