Over 84,900 candidates sit for Andhra Pradesh power utility recruitment exam

The five-day computer-based test to recruit 629 Assistant Executive Engineers across Andhra Pradesh's power utilities recorded an attendance rate of 80.40%, with 84,905 candidates writing the examination out of 1,05,566 applicants. The exam concluded Thursday after running from August 23 across 94 centres, 81 in Andhra Pradesh and 13 in other states.

First unified recruitment drive

This marked the first time AP's power utilities conducted a common test instead of separate examinations for each entity, AP-Transco Joint Managing Director (HR & Administration) G. Surya Sai Praveenchand told The Hindu at the Command & Control centre set up at Vidyut Soudha.

The electrical engineering stream drew the highest response, with 46,244 candidates attending over two days out of 53,702 applicants. For telecom and electronics branch, 19,947 of 26,237 applicants appeared, while civil engineering saw 12,301 attendees from 16,183 applicants and mechanical engineering recorded 6,411 out of 9,444.

Multi-layer security framework

Examination authorities deployed stringent anti-fraud measures including biometric verification, CCTV monitoring, centralised tracking and mobile jammers installed by Bharat Electronics Limited. Entry protocols required fingerprint and thumb impression capture, photograph verification against original photo identity documents, and physical frisking.

Question papers were transmitted to exam servers in encrypted format and decrypted only after the scheduled start time, Praveenchand said. The examinations proceeded without irregularities due to close monitoring, according to officials.

Results timeline

The preliminary answer key will be released within three days, followed by a seven-day objection window. The final answer key, normalised scores and merit list are tentatively scheduled for release in the last week of September 2026. Final selections and utility-wise allocation will follow merit ranking, reservation norms and candidate preferences.
