Mysuru to Get ₹129-Crore Bus Terminal and Major Upgrades

Mysuru district is poised for significant infrastructure development, with Minister in-charge Yathindra Siddaramaiah unveiling a series of projects aimed at transforming the city. Speaking at the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Siddaramaiah announced the construction of a new bus terminal at Bannimantap, estimated at ₹129 crore, to enhance public transport and accommodate the growing influx of tourists.

Road and Power Infrastructure Overhaul

The State government is investing ₹393.85 crore to white-top 46.088 km of roads across 12 major stretches in Mysuru city. This initiative is expected to improve road durability and reduce maintenance costs.

In addition, a ₹588.24-crore project is underway to replace 11-kV overhead power lines with underground cables. The move is anticipated to minimize power outages and lower maintenance expenses caused by damaged lines.

Tackling Drinking Water Concerns

Acknowledging Mysuru’s rainfall deficit and low reservoir levels, Siddaramaiah emphasized the government's focus on ensuring drinking water supply. Precautionary measures include drilling new borewells, rejuvenating existing ones, hiring private borewells, and deploying water tankers. An initial ₹4.5 crore was allocated for these efforts, with an additional ₹1 crore released for each Assembly constituency in the district.

Plans for Greater Mysuru

The government is working on creating a Greater Mysuru City Corporation by merging surrounding municipal councils, town panchayats, and gram panchayats with the existing city limits. A preliminary notification has been issued, and a comprehensive development plan is in progress. This move aims to streamline governance and boost development in the region.

Healthcare and Civic Initiatives

Mysuru is set to gain two new healthcare facilities—a Kidwai Memorial Hospital and a NIMHANS-type institute—to strengthen medical services in the city.

On the civic front, Mysuru, which secured the third Swachh Survekshan award in 2025, is now converting 80 garbage-vulnerable points into sustainable public spaces under the Swachhata Abhiyan-2026.

Welfare and Education Programs

The Shakti scheme has provided 49.56 crore free bus tickets to women over the past three years, with ₹1,300 crore spent on the initiative. Under Anna Bhagya, 22,24,403 beneficiaries in Mysuru district are receiving 10 kg of rice monthly through fair-price shops.

To promote women’s education, the government is constructing a ₹170-crore hostel at Maharani’s Women’s Science College, which will accommodate 1,400 students.

Dasara Festivities

With the iconic Dasara festival approaching, Siddaramaiah expressed hope for meaningful celebrations and sought blessings from Goddess Chamundeshwari for the welfare of the State.

These announcements reflect the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, public services, and overall quality of life in Mysuru.
