Kerala MLA C.R. Mahesh apologises for not wearing seat belt

Congress MLA C.R. Mahesh has publicly apologised for travelling without a seat belt, admitting it was a violation of traffic rules. In a Facebook post on Friday, the MLA from Karunagappally, Kerala, expressed regret for the lapse and acknowledged his responsibility as an elected representative to set an example.

Incident Occurred During Visit to Oommen Chandy’s Tomb
Mahesh revealed that the violation took place en route to Puthuppally church, where he was visiting the tomb of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. He stated that he had paid fines for such infractions in the past and assured that he would verify if any dues remained unpaid. “If not, I will ensure that the fine is paid and take care not to repeat the mistake,” he wrote.

Media Report Prompted Apology
The MLA’s statement followed media coverage of the incident. Mahesh thanked the visual media for highlighting the mistake and reiterated his apology. “Many people violate traffic rules knowingly or unknowingly. However, elected representatives should not commit such lapses,” he emphasised in his post.
