Oommen Chandy Set the Benchmark for Public Service, Says Kerala Minister Anil Kumar
Kerala Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar on Sunday described former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as a model public servant who exemplified how leaders should connect with people. Speaking at the Oommen Chandy Memorial programme organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC), Kumar highlighted Chandy’s unwavering commitment to supporting society's most vulnerable sections.
A Legacy Rooted in Service
The Minister praised Chandy for his selfless approach to governance, noting that the late leader never sought personal recognition for his initiatives. Instead, Chandy’s guiding principle was to make a tangible, positive impact on at least one person’s life. “His ideology was rooted in the conviction that genuine public service is measured not by fame or accolades, but by the good one can do for fellow human beings,” Kumar said.
The memorial programme, presided over by DCC president Adv. Joseph Tajet, served as a platform to reflect on Chandy’s enduring influence on Kerala’s political and social landscape.
Why It Matters
Oommen Chandy, who served as Kerala’s Chief Minister twice, was widely regarded as a people’s leader. His empathetic approach and focus on grassroots issues continue to inspire political leaders across party lines. Kumar’s remarks underscore the late leader’s lasting legacy as a benchmark for public service in the state.
