Kanpur Dehat schools shut August 24 for heavy rain and religious observance

Schools across Kanpur Dehat district will remain closed on August 24 for students from Class 1 to Class 12, following an order issued by the district administration. The decision was taken on the directions of District Magistrate Kapil Singh, with the Basic Shiksha Adhikari formally issuing the holiday notification. Authorities have instructed all educational institutions to strictly comply with the order.

The closure will apply uniformly to all types of schools operating in the district. This includes government-run Parishad schools, recognised private institutions, aided schools receiving government assistance, and schools affiliated with various boards such as CBSE, ICSE, and the State Board of Secondary Education. The comprehensive nature of the order ensures that no category of educational institution remains exempt.

The administration cited two primary reasons for declaring the holiday. The meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall in the region, which could pose risks to students commuting to and from school. Additionally, August 24 marks the final Monday of the Hindu month of Sawan, a day of significant religious observance when large crowds of devotees are expected to visit temples and participate in rituals.

Officials expressed concern that the combination of adverse weather conditions and heightened religious activity could severely disrupt traffic and public movement. The decision was taken proactively to ensure students do not face any inconvenience or safety hazards while travelling. The district administration has emphasised that protecting student welfare remains the top priority, and all school managements must adhere to the closure directive without exception. This precautionary measure reflects the administration's commitment to balancing educational schedules with public safety and religious sentiments during challenging circumstances.
