Ghaziabad police arrest two suspects in shootout over 25 lakh rupee robbery

Ghaziabad police have arrested two suspects in an encounter linked to a major robbery in the Wave City area, recovering five lakh rupees in cash along with illegal firearms and ammunition. The accused, who allegedly looted nearly 25 lakh rupees from a Meerut resident four days ago, were injured in the shootout and are now in custody.

The incident dates back to August 21, 2026, when armed men travelling in a Scorpio vehicle robbed Gilman, son of Naimuddin and resident of Alibag Colony in Meerth, of Rs 24.85 lakh in the Wave City police station area. A case was registered under section 309(4) of the Indian Penal Code at Wave City police station.

Acting on a tip-off from an informer on August 25, a joint team comprising SWAT units from the crime branch and Nagar zone along with Wave City police set up a checkpoint on Raja Ji Road. When officers tried to stop two men riding an unnumbered Splendor motorcycle, the suspects turned around and attempted to flee. After abandoning their bike, they opened fire at the police team with intent to kill, triggering a retaliatory encounter. Both suspects were shot in the leg and fell to the ground before being rushed to hospital for treatment.

The arrested men have been identified as Saddam, 20, son of Aafaq, resident of Neelmani Colony Arthala near Pir Ke Peeche Gali Number 4 under Sahibabad police station, and Aasif, 38, son of Ehsan, resident of Fadalle Pur Road Babu Bharti Gali Number 35 under Lisari Gate police station in Meerut. Police recovered five lakh rupees from the robbery, two illegal country-made pistols of .315 bore, four live cartridges, four empty shells, and the unnumbered motorcycle. Authorities are currently investigating the criminal history of both accused.
