Auraiya police bust goat theft ring, arrest two suspects with weapons

Police in Auraiya district have cracked down on a goat theft ring, arresting two suspects and recovering stolen animals along with weapons and vehicles. The arrests came as part of an ongoing campaign by Superintendent of Police Abhishek Bharatiya to make the district crime-free.

During the operation, police recovered three stolen goats and a vehicle used in the thefts. Officers also seized two country-made pistols, four live cartridges, and two mobile phones from the accused. The confiscated items are believed to have been used to carry out multiple thefts across the district.

Under interrogation, the arrested men revealed details of their operations near the Expressway area. Police said the suspects confessed to stealing nine goats in separate incidents around the Expressway vicinity, helping investigators solve a series of theft cases that had been reported in recent weeks.

Goat theft has emerged as a recurring problem in rural and semi-urban areas of Uttar Pradesh, where livestock represents a significant economic asset for small farmers and herders. Such thefts not only cause financial loss but also create insecurity among villagers who depend on their animals for livelihood.

The crackdown is part of SP Abhishek Bharatiya's broader initiative to eliminate crime in Auraiya district. The police chief has been pushing for proactive policing and swift action against organized criminal activities. Local residents have welcomed the arrests, hoping it will deter similar crimes in the area.

Police said investigations are continuing to determine if the arrested men were part of a larger network involved in livestock theft across neighboring districts. Further interrogation may lead to more arrests and help recover additional stolen property.
