Woman subjected to unauthorized surgery, family beaten when questioning doctors at UP hospital

A serious case of alleged medical negligence and assault has emerged from RMC Hospital in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman who underwent childbirth was reportedly subjected to an unauthorized surgical procedure, and her family members were assaulted when they questioned the doctors. Advocate Pankaj Goswami has filed a formal complaint at Nagar Kotwali police station against the hospital's director Dr. Suvarna and unknown staff members following the incident that took place on the night of Sunday, August 23.

According to the complaint filed by Goswami, a resident of Ambedkar Chowraha Kachehri Station Road under Kotwali Nagar area, his sister-in-law Anuradha had been admitted to Dr. Suvarna's RMC Hospital located opposite Kunwar Talkies for childbirth and routine care. The advocate alleged that when Anuradha was admitted on August 16, 2026, the doctor had assured the family of a normal delivery. However, the hospital later allegedly performed a surgical operation without informing or obtaining consent from the family.

The situation escalated on the night of August 23, 2026, when Goswami's brother arrived at RMC Hospital with his wife Anuradha and their eight-day-old newborn. When he questioned Dr. Suvarna about why the operation was performed without consent, the doctor reportedly became enraged and began hurling abuses. Hospital staff present at the scene then allegedly attacked him with kicks, punches, and slaps. When the new mother Anuradha attempted to intervene, she was also pushed and mistreated.

During the assault, Anuradha's condition suddenly deteriorated and she collapsed unconscious at the spot. Seeing her critical state, family members immediately rushed her to nearby Anant Hospital for emergency treatment. The incident has raised serious questions about medical ethics and patient safety at private healthcare facilities in the district.
