India-UK Trade Pact Boosts Telangana's Export Potential

The India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) officially came into force on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, unlocking significant opportunities for Telangana’s export-driven industries. The landmark pact eliminates tariffs on a wide range of products, positioning the State to strengthen its foothold in the UK market.

Telangana's Export Powerhouses to Benefit

Telangana, a leading Indian export hub for pharmaceuticals, electronics, and engineering products, exported goods worth $402.5 million to the UK in 2025–26. High-value manufactured and knowledge-intensive products dominate these exports, showcasing the State’s robust industrial ecosystem. Key export categories include drug formulations and biologicals ($116.4 million), electronic instruments ($110.4 million), and chemicals ($30.2 million).

The State’s Industries Department highlighted that the tariff elimination under CETA will make Telangana’s products more competitive in the UK market. Previously, exports like textiles faced tariffs of up to 12%, leather products up to 16%, and machinery up to 14%. With duties now reduced to zero, the State anticipates a surge in exports.

Boost for Key Sectors and MSMEs

Pharmaceuticals, life sciences, electronics, precision engineering, and specialty chemicals are among the sectors expected to thrive under the agreement. The pact also aims to enhance the participation of MSMEs in global value chains, attract investments into export-oriented manufacturing, and diversify Telangana’s export portfolio.

Emerging export categories such as processed foods, rice, spices, and value-added agricultural products are also poised for growth, further broadening the State’s economic base.
