Government to Introduce Two Key Bills in Lok Sabha Today

The government is set to advance its legislative agenda in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, with two significant bills slated for introduction in the Lok Sabha today, August 3, 2026. The Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026, and the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026, are expected to be tabled during the proceedings. Additionally, the Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha, remains a key highlight amid political tensions.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is also scheduled to present a statement on the Demands for Excess Grants for the financial year 2022-23. This comes as the government seeks to address fiscal matters alongside its legislative priorities during the session.

The monsoon session, which began on July 20 and is set to conclude on August 13, has been marked by frequent disruptions. Opposition parties have repeatedly raised demands for discussions on the NEET-UG paper leak, which sparked protests at Jantar Mantar. These protests have drawn significant attention, with Opposition leaders criticizing the government’s handling of the issue and police actions against demonstrators.

Despite the turbulence, the government is pushing forward with its agenda, aiming to introduce and pass critical legislation. The Indian Statistical Institute Bill, 2026, is expected to focus on the functioning and governance of the institute, while the Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026, is likely to address legal provisions related to the admissibility of banking records as evidence in courts.

With just over a week left in the session, all eyes are on Parliament as the government navigates legislative priorities amid heightened political tensions.
