Flipkart Expands Ekart Warehousing By 50%, Adds 900 Delivery Hubs
Flipkart expands Ekart warehousing by 14 million cubic feet, adds delivery hubs and boosts capacity ahead of Big Billion Days festive sales.
City-based Flipkart said it has expanded Ekart’s warehousing and delivery network ahead of The Big Billion Days and the upcoming festive season, adding capacity for faster order processing and last-mile deliveries across the country.
Warehousing capacity increased
Flipkart announced on Tuesday that its supply chain and logistics arm, Ekart, has added 14 million cubic feet of warehousing space nationwide.
The company said the addition has increased Ekart’s storage capacity by 50%.
It also said technology and automation enhancements have raised peak processing capacity by more than 30%.
The expansion comes as the company prepares for The Big Billion Days and the festive season, when higher order volumes and faster delivery expectations are central to operations.
More delivery hubs for faster reach
According to Flipkart, customers across the country now expect faster deliveries, and over 900 additional delivery hubs have been added specifically to expand last-mile reach during the festive season.
The company said the additional hubs are meant to enable greater volumes of same-day and next-day deliveries.
These additions build on more than 8,200 Ekart facilities across the country, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations.
Flipkart also said its network includes nearly 1,200 Flipkart Minutes micro-fulfilment centres across 150-plus cities, including Bengaluru.
Inventory positioned for small sellers
To enable faster fulfilment for MSMEs, small sellers, weavers and artisans during The Big Billion Days, more than 2.5 crore units of their products have been pre-positioned within Ekart fulfilment centres.
In addition, 70 pick-up stations have been opened across key seller hubs to reduce seller fulfilment time, the e-tailer said.
Hemant Badri, senior vice-president and Head, Supply Chain, Flipkart Group, said, “This year, a customer in Leh or Kargil will experience Big Billion Days for the first time.”
Jobs added for festive operations
Flipkart said it has created over 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities in preparation for the festive season.
Of these opportunities, nearly 75,000 are for first-time workforce entrants.
Around 60% of the new opportunities are in last-mile delivery.
