Hong Kong to convert car park floors into logistics hub for Interpol assembly

Two floors of a Sheung Wan multi-storey car park will be closed to the public for six weeks to serve as a logistics hub for the Interpol general assembly in Hong Kong next year.

Hong Kong police will take over the seventh and eighth floors of the Rumsey Street car park from November 1, 2026, converting the space into a traffic coordination command centre for the international policing conference. The floors will reopen on December 12.

240 electric vehicles for delegates

The centre is planned to accommodate 240 electric cars to be used by participants of Interpol's general assembly travelling to and from the airport, hotels and meeting venues, according to a police paper to be tabled for discussion at a Central and Western District Council meeting next Thursday.

Police said the car park was chosen because it was on Hong Kong Island and close to hotels and the meeting venue, "which is conducive to the coordination and dispatch of vehicles" for the conference.

The 94th Interpol general assembly will be held from November 30 to December 3 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The arrangement will allow police to centrally manage the fleet serving delegates during the four-day event.
