District rolls out week-long Onam celebration across 15 venues in Kochi

The Tourism department, District Tourism Promotion Council, and district administration will roll out a week-long Onam festival across 15 venues, with the inaugural event scheduled at Durbar Hall open air auditorium on August 24.

40 cultural programmes across the district

'Lavanyam 2026' will run until August 30, spreading performances beyond the main Durbar Hall venue to locations including Veli ground in Fort Kochi, North Paravur, Kothamangalam, Piravom, Perumbavoor, Palluruthy, Pampakuda, Vypeen, Muvattupuzha, Kuttampuzha, Kadamprayar, Vasco Da Gama Square, and Kumbalanghi. Around 40 cultural programmes will be staged during the celebrations.

The opening day lineup features Sinkarimelam, Sopana Sangeetham, and a cultural fete by differently abled people, with keyboardist Stephen Devassy headlining the evening.

Onasadya and musical evenings

Residents of Kuttampuzha Panthapra colony will receive Onasadya and new clothes on August 25, followed by a musical concert by composer duo Berny-Ignatius at the Durbar Hall ground.

Thiruvonam day on August 26 will showcase a spring festival presenting cultural forms from Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Telangana, organised jointly by Bharat Bhavan and the Cultural department.

Traditional art forms and closing show

Traditional Kerala performances including Pulikali and live music fusion will take center stage on August 27. Kalamezhuthupattu and Sarppampattu are scheduled for August 28.

The festival concludes with a dance performance by St. Albert's College and a mega show featuring actor Guinness Pakru.
