Foreign nationals’ details must be reported within 24 hours of their arrival, Chittoor SP cautions host establishments

Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi has warned establishments accommodating foreign nationals that their details must be registered online within 24 hours of their arrival.

Online registration made mandatory

The requirement applies to private managements and individuals providing accommodation to foreigners. Hotels, guest houses, private house owners, hospitals, hostels, ashrams, choultries, educational institutions and other establishments hosting foreign nationals must upload information about their arrival, stay and departure through digital mode.

The information must be submitted to the Foreigners Regional Registration Offices and Foreigners Registration Offices, referred to in the statement as FRRO and FRO offices. Dudi issued the statement on Sunday (October 4, 2026), directing establishments to follow the prescribed registration process without delay.

Under Section 8 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025, passport, visa, personal and accommodation details must be entered on https://indianfrro.gov.in and submitted within 24 hours. Dudi said managements must not show negligence in completing the registration.

Penalty for non-compliance

The SP warned that failure to register details through the Form III and Form C portal would attract a penalty of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh, a jail term of two to seven years, or both. The penalties have been cited under Section 23(b) of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025.

Dudi said hotels and institutions must strictly follow legal procedures while providing accommodation to foreign nationals. Foreigners visiting the district for work, education, medical purposes or tourism must respect Indian laws and carry valid visas and passports, he said.

The SP also clarified that Overseas Citizens of India cannot contest or vote in any elections in India and cannot purchase agricultural land in the country.
