Girl's hair caught in generator during Ganesh procession, fatal injuries in Chittoor

An 11-year-old girl suffered fatal head injuries after her hair became entangled in a generator powering lights during a Ganesh procession at Damarapakam village in Nagari mandal of Chittoor district. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, September 15, 2026.

Fatal accident during procession

Prasanna Sri was sitting close to the generator set, which was mounted on a tractor and running the lights for the procession, when her hair got caught in the machine, the Nagari police said. By the time she was pulled clear, she had suffered grievous injuries to the head.

The girl was placed in a vehicle and rushed to the Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia (SVRR) Government Hospital in Tirupati, the nearest hospital equipped to treat her. The facility is located about an hour and a quarter's drive from the village. She died on the way. The Nagari police have registered a case.

Farmer killed during idol immersion

In a separate incident on Wednesday morning, September 16, 2026, Reddappa, 40, a farmer of Kotala Attigadda village in Tamballapalle mandal of Annamayya district, was killed while taking part in the immersion of a Ganesh idol at the Peddavagu stream. A large idol fell on him and pinned him under the water. He was pulled out in a critical condition and taken to the Government Hospital at Tamballapalle, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
